MIKE 2026

Structural Model Editor

The new Structural Model Editor in FEFLOW allows you to build geological models directly within the FEFLOW interface. Users can compile borehole data, fault networks, and stratigraphic sequences, which are subsequently used to create Supermesh projects read-to-be-meshed, - without relying on third-party tools. This guided workflow streamlines 3D geological model creation for users working across diverse subsurface modelling scenarios.

Advanced Open Loop System in Well Manager

The Well Manager now includes a dedicated Open Loop System section to support detailed modelling of geothermal systems. Users can define well groups, specify heat demand by temperature difference or power, and configure system parameters with greater control. Ideal for feasibility studies, this extension enhances flexibility when simulating open loop geothermal systems in FEFLOW.

3D Layer Configurator Enhancements

The 3D Layer Configurator now provides much smoother workflows for intersecting geological layers, with new methods for resolving pinch-outs via minimum slice separation, structured pinching (slice/layer-based), or unstructured meshing. A new interactive Pinch-delete tool lets users eliminate unnecessary elements directly in Slice or 3D views. Ideal for refining complex FEFLOW models and improving simulation efficiency.

Split Layer Tool

The new Split Layer tool enables vertical discretisation in models with pinch-out layers, a previously unavailable workflow. Users can interactively select specific areas and insert additional FEFLOW slices to refine the model’s structure. This enhancement offers greater control when modelling complex stratigraphy requiring variable vertical resolution.

Improved Calculation Performance

FEFLOW now delivers faster runtimes across multiple problem classes, with performance gains of 50% or more in some cases. Enhancements also include optimisations for models using boundary condition constraints. These improvements accelerate simulations for all FEFLOW projects, helping users achieve results more efficiently.

Boundary Conditions in Cross-Section Views

Boundary conditions and observation points can now be visualised in FEFLOW’s cross-sectional views. This enhancement improves model interpretation and presentation by allowing key elements, such as wells and observation points, to be displayed in context. Users can easily generate informative snapshots for reports or presentations.

Integrated Scripting Editor and Console

FEFLOW now includes a full-featured scripting editor and Python console directly within the user interface. Users can write, format, and run scripts, customise the environment, install packages, and encrypt scripts for added security. This expansion enhances automation and post-processing workflows, streamlining advanced modelling tasks without leaving the FEFLOW GUI.

Python-Based Interpolation Methods

New regionalisation methods are now available in the FEFLOW-Python interface, enabling direct interpolation of external datasets. Users can efficiently assign both elemental and nodal parameters, such as material properties or boundary conditions, using custom interpolators. This streamlines the integration of sparse data into FEFLOW models, accelerating model setup and refinement.
